A New Trailer Rises (plus Prometheus)

What an epic way to start the week.

Not only did Sunday night take us to the far ends of the Earth… nay, universe with the latest trailer in Ridley Scott‘s eagerly anticipated Aliens prequel Prometheus but yesterday Christopher Nolan blessed us with tension building teaser for the last instalment of the Dark Knight trilogy, TheDark Knight Rises.

And here they both are:

Prometheus – International launch trailer

This was probably one of the most effectively publicised trailer releases I have ever witnessed, mainly thanks to Zeebox (your TV sidekick). To rally support for both the upcoming film and TV’s  rapidly growing social partner, Zeebox, they ran a ticket giveaway awarding a lucky few Tweeters that hashtagged #AreYouWatchingThis and #Zeebox during the initial airing of the trailer on Channel4. By the looks of things on Twitter it would appear hundreds tuned in not to watch Showtime’s new hit TV series Homeland but instead to sit through the ads (WIN!).

The Dark Knight Rises – Trailer #3

And if you thought it couldn’t get any better, Nolan releases more footage of the legendary Dark Knight, featuring more explosion, more characters, more plot and more atmosphere than a basketball match against real Bears and Raptors.
If you were to ask me, which you didn’t but you’re getting it anyway. I think he gave away a little too much, especially that last little snippet (if you haven’t got there yet, don’t ruin it for yourself). It also helped reassure me that despite Bane having only a fraction of his titan based body, Tom Hardy is still going to make him an enemy to remember AND that Anne Hathaway will indeed make a shit Catwoman.

(Thanks to @VickyHinault for the Dark Knight trailer)

Happy Birthday David

Y’all know how I just lurve Robots…

Well here’s the latest release from a company called Weyland Industries:

This is the second viral we’ve seen for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien prequel, Prometheus. I would really like to believe in these viral and delve deeper into the franchise whilst imagining I was living a future in which Weyland was real but unfortunately those responsible manage to thwart me at every step, plastering each piece of communication with words to the devastating effect of – ‘This is just an add for a fictional film, do not suspend your disbelief!’ or alternatively ‘Prometheus Viral’.

Just for one moment let me get lost in space (oh no… that was a different franchise entirely).

Virals Worth Spreading

We’ve just had Deborah Kornfilt from TED come in and talk to us about the Ted ecosystem, conferences and the future. Unfortunately the talk about TED talks was not nearly as inspiring as any TED talk of the past. However… this is not a blog post about the latest future facing inspirational invention…  This is about Aliens.

A couple of days ago Ridley Scott released a viral video for his upcoming Alien prequel Prometheus. I don’t think there was an ad agency involved, I think he conceived and expertly executed the viral himself. He did, after all, use to be one of the best in the business (Apparently, Ridley gave his son Luke Scott a shot at directing this viral short, this has not been confirmed). This viral short sees Guy Pearce as Peter Weyand, CEO of Weyland Industries (That is an actual website, I’d keep an eye on that if I were you), presenting a TED talk in the year 2023, announcing the future and claiming, “We are the Gods now”:

TED not only endorsed Scott’s return to roots by allowing him to use the official TED branding, but they’ve also been so kind as to post this Q&A with screenwriter and producer Damon Lindelof, in which he talks about the blurry lines between science and fiction and his surprise at getting Ted onboard (well worth a read).

A lovely script is compliment with some excellent touches, especially the Parrott style Drone that leads Weyland out or  the text tweet that appears in the background at around the 53seconds mark.

The copy seems to read:

“Where’s Weyland going with this? Thought fire was for all mankind. He’s probably franchised using it now. #TED http://bit.ly/tgwQvj

The link leads to an Apple trailer for the upcoming film.

As a viral I think it really works, I for one am now EVEN MORE excited about it’s early June release date. And I will be watching the Weyland Corps website, I’ll let you know if anything happens.

The New Year Rises

Happy new year! And welcome back to normality.

I was without my laptop throughout the festive season so I couldn’t post the early Christmas gift that was…

the Prometheus trailer.

Prometheus

But that is a little too glum to start the year with and with the new Batman movie on the horizon, this is far more suited to see in 2012:

The Lion King Rises

Happy New Year!

The Best of Benton/Fenton

For those of you who didn’t see the original mutt based mayhem, here’s Fenton (originally considered to be called Benton) in Richmond Park.

Original:

Jesus Christ in Richmond park

Within a week Fenton the deer seeking dog has become an internet phenomenon and now he’s at it again, this time he is praying on bigger beasts:

And of course, my own entries…

And…

Benton vs Fireworks

And so it continues…

Benton the dog vs Starship Troopers – Jesus Christ!

Yakety Sax Edit

Wilson

Hitler’s even had a go:

Adolf Hitler in Richmond Park

And there’s even more from creator Southparkalot on his YouTube Channel, including Jesus Christ in 300 and Jesus Christ Throws a Shoe at George Bush.

And it turns out I even like…

Benton Streisand

Here’s one I actually wanted to do myself. Benton vs The Wicker Man. It’s something about Edward Woodwards screams that I find absolutely terrifying:

Benton Meets Wickerman

Jesus Christ in The Birds

Benton/Fenton Pitch Invasion

Jesus Christ and Indiana Jones

And they keep on coming.

Here’s Alien, 28 Weeks Later, Jumanji, Braveheart, Lord of the Rings, Trainspotting, Jaws, The Birds, Mars Attack,  The Thing and the list keeps going.

Most of them I don’t actually find that good, and I’ve left a lot out, and there’s not enough hours in the day to keep updating so unless something amazing (like Benton vs Fireworks) comes along… I may have to call it a day.

All brought to my attention thanks to ThePoke.co.uk

The creators of the video have come forward, to talk about the media attention as well as the dos actual name… Fenton:

Photoshocked

To help bring a little joy to your Monday moaning I thought I’d post this inspiring use of photoshop, for both good and evil… both are good.

Firstly I’d like to spread some light on this dark image:

This image has haunted the internet for over a year and that’s nothing compared to the poor woodland Redneck that pulled it from his deer cam. But the truth behind this mysterious underling has recently surfaced on reddit (either that or it’s an even cleverer hoax on the original clever hoax).

Now for some more enlightening news.

After a family of Star Wars fans take a trip to Sequoia National Park, graphic designer Dad Anthony Herrera decides to make it a day of Ewok hunting amongst the Endor style redwood forest. These are the events that followed in his own words:

“A year ago we took a trip to Sequoia National Park. I wanted to excite my daughter while being in such amazing surroundings. Being the Star Wars geek that I am (so is she), I told her that this is where the Ewoks live. She spent a good chuck of our time hiking keeping a lookout for any Ewoks. Coming home I can’t say that she wasn’t disappointed that we didn’t find any. I had to explain that they are extremely shy and hardly ever let anyone see them. After we got home, and after I had a little time alone with the photos, I told her I thought I saw something strange in a few pictures. We viewed them on the TV to get a larger image. You can imagine how surprised and excited she was when we discovered that we didn’t see any Ewoks, but they saw us, and had certainly taken an interest in her and her little brother. Maybe I’m a little wrong for lying to her and falsifying the pictures, but I don’t care. She’ll never forget the time she spent in the big woods with Ewoks.

See his post here.

Looking at those happy family photos does make me a little envious, I wish I had an Ewok.

Anyhoo, I hope this has brightened your Monday. See you again soon!!!
(…metaphorically speaking.)
