PHOTOSHOPLOOTERS

As many of you may know, there has been a little unrest in the streets of London over the past few days. Our beautiful city now resembles that of sci-fi horror flick, the dystopian future has become our now. Yet out of the flames comes one tumblr blog that is striving to put a positive spin on such a horrendous thing…

Here are some of my faves:

Good luck all.

Old Spice Challenge Mano-a-Mano

Exciting news; the now newer, hairier and generally shitter Old Spice guy, Fabio Lanzoni, has challened the old Old Spice guy, Isaiah Mustafa to a duel. His challenge video starts with a mocking impersonation of the original and universally loved ad, very dangerous when you’re an over the hill model relying on nothing but cheap visual gags instead of a tight script and an inspirational front man.

They’re making a song and dance over it via YouTube and Facebook and as Weidens and Kennedy (the Ad Agency responsible) proved with their follow up  Twitter campaign, they know how to nail digital. So in true Isaiah style, the challenge was accepted with that near famous, well constructed vernacular and effortlessly confident delivery that we now expect from Old Spice. Oh sorry, old Old Spice.

It will be interesting to see if Fabio gets any support, or if he really is overshadowed by the far more proficient character and if he is, what this will mean for the future advertising of the brand. Either way, there will be a live final (as stated in’t video) today at 12:00 EST or around 17:00 GMT. You can experience the testosterone based battle here.

Twitter Job Hustle

I know I’ve been away for a long time but the festi-fortnight really takes it out of you. Glastonbury followed by wireless and a bit of Jamie Oliver’s Feastival sprinkled into the mix just for good measure.

I sort of wish after all these, what I can truly appreciate as being, bleak times… I could do better than this, but:

Two creative-wannabe’s have blindsided creative directors via Twitter. Using a similar technique to the Facebook Alphabet, these clever fella’s created profiles with letters to place messages directly on CD’s most recent followers. Here’s a vid:

Fair tweets for Fairtrade, fair enough

This is a lovely use of Twitter.

Ben and Jerry’s fairtrade icecream have developed a ‘fair tweet’ mechanism that utilises every unused character and transforms them into a short (or long depending on how much space you have left) promotional blurb.

I think it is a lovely and innovative way to spread a worthy and relevant message.

And here’s the website hard at work:

Visit the site and create your fair tweet here.

Ex-Wing

I don’t want to spoil the ending, but before this practically perfect model X-wing breaks up in the air…   Oh bollocks, I’ve gone done spoilt it already.  Just watch the clip.

Filmed (as far as I know) and posted by OdinOfValhalla

Thanks to @GavRov, who also linked me to this retro game reunion.

Brought back some good memories, thanks Gav.

A lesson in digital from The Tweets

The Streets head man Mike Skinner is all over Twitter, releasing tracks, chatting to friends and responding to fans even through the medium of video or song. It is clear that Skinner really does ‘get’ digital, and although he’s currently penning The Streets final album, he is definitely one to watch, and I have a feeling he won’t be that hard to find.

But I’m not here just to blow Mike Skinners general digitaldoo, I’d like to bring to your attention exhibit ‘A’ his most recent Tweet:

Just click the link and you’re transported to a classic Skinner video response and it’s aimed directly @jamesjammcmahon, Guardian writer and and owner of this complimentary article, highlighting Skinners digital depths.

Even with the knowledge of Skinner’s internet antics, I’m sure even writer James McMahon was surprised at the near instant response:

There is a little irony in The Streets being digital.

Either way, congratulations to Mike, a true innovator of modern music, I’m sure we’ll be hearing from you soon.
